QUEEN MOTHER 100th ANNIVERSARY
PROOF COLOUR COIN
Born the Honourable Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon,
into a family descended from the Royal House of Scotland, she
was educated at home and spent her early childhood at her parent's
country home, just north of London. Married in 1923 to Prince Albert
Frederick Arthur George - Duke of York and the second son of King
George V - the royal couple had two children, Princess Elizabeth,
the present British Sovereign, and Princess Margaret. After King
George V's death in 1936 and King Edward VIII's abdication in December
of that same year, the Duke and Duchess assumed the responsibilities
of the throne, to become King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at their
coronation in May 1937. After the death of her husband in 1952, The
Queen Mother moved from Buckingham Palace to Clarence House, but has
remained actively engaged in public duties both at home and abroad.
She has become one of the most popular members of the Royal Family,
gaining admiration for her energy and spirit. With love of the countryside
and sport, The Queen Mother spends time at the Castle of Mey in the far
north-east of Scotland, which she has visited regularly since 1953.
She remains at the center of the Royal Family's life, maintaining close
links with every generation. The Perth Mint has issued this commemorative
coin with permission from Clarence House and under the authority of the
Government of the Cook Islands. This 1oz silver, coloured coin has been
brought out to celebrate the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
The Queen Mother on the 4th August 2000. It is struck from 99.9% fine silver
and has a limited mintage of 19,500. A superb coin to add to your collection.
