COLOURED COINS

This set of five coloured coins, has been made out of 99.9 silver and was
brought out by The Perth Mint under the authority of the Government of
Cook Islands. Australia's insects range from venomous spiders, gluttonous
and virtually indestructible termites, to incredibly striking butterflies
and metallic beetles and dragonflies. In fact, Australia's insect life
is even more varied and unusual than its flora and fauna. Like insects
the world over, many species in Australia have not yet been recorded
or classified. The five species in this series represent just a colourful
few of the millions that thrive in Australia's environment. The mintage
has been limited to just 5000 sets and comes complete
with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Goliath Stick Insect
Stick insects are perfectly adapted to their environments in terms
of camouflage, with their slender bodies and long spindly legs making
them most impossible to detect among vegetation.

Rainforest Damselfly
There are over 300 species of dragonfly in Australia. Damselflies are the
more delicate sub-order and are slightly slower.

Cuckoo Wasp
A metallic coloured wasp, usually in blue or green, it can also be
purple and reddish. Its thick body is usually covered in coarse sculpturing.

Ulysses Butterfly
This is one of the 18 members of the Australian swallowtail family of
butterflies, which are known for their tail like projections on each hind wing.

Jewel Beetle
Worn as jewellery by many ancient people, this beautiful beetle has
an iridescent body made up of many metallic tints of red, yellow
and black with coloured patterns across its body in yellow, orange, red and blue.
