THREATENED SPECIES - AUSTRALIAN MARINE
COLOURED COINS

This is a beautiful set of five coloured 1oz coins that has been
produced by the Perth Mint under the authorization of the Cook
Island Government. The Cook Islands Coloured Marine Life Series
is made from 99.9% silver. The array of life in the world's oceans
is diverse, beautiful and often strange. The marine life displayed
on this series of coins represents a small percentage of the creatures
that live in the sea around Cook Islands. The bold designs on the
coins display five colourful marine creatures in their equally colourful
aquatic environments. There is a limited mintage of 4000 sets and each
comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
Below is a description on each of the creatures in the series.

Regal Angelfish
An amazingly coloured fish from the Indian and Pacific Oceans,
the Regal Angelfish has vertical bands of yellow, white and blue
running across its body. Bright yellow snout and tail fin add to the
riot of colour, while the rear part of the dorsal fin is black with blue dots.

Lemonpeel Angelfish
Another stunning looking angelfish, this one has a golden colour with
a "lemonpeel like" texture over its body. This is contrasted by small
bright blue markings around the eyes and gills, as well as a blue edge to its fins.

Clown Anemone Fish
Colourful "clownface" markings of bright red and white bands, edged in black,
over its whole body, have given this fish its name. A curious waddling
swimming motion completes its description.

Southern Serpent Starfish
The starfish, or sea star, is a member of the Echinoderm family
(meaning spiny skin) which includes sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea lilies
and brittle stars. It commonly has a five-rayed body with a water vascular system.

Clown Triggerfish
The name triggerfish refers to the characteristic locking and unlocking
of the fish's first dorsal fin. Usually the fin is positioned in a flat
groove on the top of the body, but it can be locked in an upright position.
