EUREKA STOCKADE 2004 $1 UNC COIN
"C" MINTMARK
This is a striking coin that has been brought out by The Royal Australian
Mint to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Eureka Stockade,
which took place on the 3rd of December 1854 in Ballarat, Victoria.
This $1 aluminum bronze coin features a distinctive contemporary
design which captures the 1854 Eureka Stockade. The reverse of the
coin shows the Stockade behind a fenced barricade being surrounded
by the Victorian Government's men on both foot and horseback.
During the battle at least 30 miners and 5 soldiers were killed. The
miner's leader, Peter Lalor, lost his left arm. The government placed
the rebels on trial in Melbourne, but the juries refused to convict them.
The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This uncirculated coin has also been given
a mintmark which is the 'C' for Canberra. This coin comes to you housed in
the customary three panel card, which features a detail of the painting
which inspired the design and a concise story of the event. A great
collector coin and a reminder of the historic, yet tragic event.
