GREAT RAIL JOURNEYS OF THE WORLD
2004 SILVER 5 COIN SET
VERY RARE!!

This is a beautiful set of coins that was brought out by the Perth Mint to
show the great railways. The 2004 Great Railways of the World Five
Coin Silver Set is a set of five coloured coins, each struck from 1oz of
99.9% pure silver in proof quality. Issued as legal tender under the
authority of the Government of the Cook Islands, each 2004 dated coin
portrays a memorable railway journey. Included in the designs is
the Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark. The obverses bear the Raphael Maklouf
effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
In railway terms, greatness can pertain to the historical significance of a
route - in the 19th and early 20th centuries, pioneering transcontinental
railways helped build nations in the Americas and the Antipodes. It can
also relate to the eminence of a particular locomotive. Engineering
innovation has continuously pushed the limits of rail speed, power and
efficiency, and locomotives that achieve a quantum jump in
performance swiftly pass into the realm of legend. Greatness is also
implied by the crossing of remarkable landscape, or the connection of
two, or more, historic cities. Drawing on these ideas for inspiration,
The Perth Mints Great Rail Journeys of the World depicts five
unforgettable experiences. There was a limited mintage placed on this
amazing set of coins of only 1500. A truly beautiful set of coins to add
to any collection.
