2003 SYDNEY MINT SOVEREIGN PROOF COIN

This fine bi-metal proof $10 coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of
the design and minting of the Pattern design for the first Sydney Mint
sovereigns. Uniface electrolytes of the 1853 sovereign Pattern, held in
the National Coin Collection in Canberra have been used to reproduce
the sovereign obverse and reverse, which are featured in the middle of
the coin in the 24ct gold plated centre. An adaptation of William
Wyon's 'Young Head' of Queen Victoria, is the centers obverse. The
reverse design was completely different from the traditional Imperial
sovereign, so that the integrity of the Imperial sovereigns, and featured
a uniquely Australian design with the word 'Australia' and 'Sydney
Mint' prominent on the design. The centre is surrounded by 99.9% Fine
Silver and features the monetary value, 1853 - 2003 dates and the
words 'Sydney Mint Pattern'. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley
effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This stunning coin comes to you housed in a sun burnt orange colored
display case, along with an accompanying numbered Certificate of
Authenticity. Also enclosed is a booklet with some of the history of the
Sydney Mint Sovereign Patterns. A truly beautiful coin that will be
pride of place in any collection.
