KOREAN WAR SET 2003 - AUSTRALIAN'S AT WAR

Here is an absolutely brilliant collection of coins that have been brought out
by The Perth Mint as a tribute in honor of those who served their
country during five major international conflicts of the twentieth
century.
In commemoration of those Australians who fought and died in the Korean
War, The Perth Mint has issued this privy mark coin, which features a
coloured representation of the Korea Medal and ribbon. The 2003 dated
Australian Kookaburra host coin, struck in specimen quality from 2oz
of 99.9% pure silver, is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act
1965. The reverse design features a striking depiction of a Kookaburra,
together with the Medal reverse and ribbon in the form of a coloured
privy mark. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination of $2.
A miniature replica of the Korea Medal and ribbon is included with this
Korean War Set. Awarded to the British and Commonwealth forces,
the Korea Medal features Hercules wrestling the Hydra, a many-headed
serpent, and the inscription KOREA on the reverse. Mary Gillick's
effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse. The
ribbon is yellow with two blue stripes.
In tribute to all Australian service and support personnel who participated in
the Korean War, The Perth Mint has designed and produced a
commemorative Korean War Medallion featuring images associated
with the conflict. Struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and featuring
both 3d and colour elements, the Medallion is a unique reminder of the
personnel and fighting equipment of the era. As well as the inscription
KOREAN WAR 1950 - 1953, the Medallion design features troops of
3RAR, 1950; Meteor jet aircraft of 77 Squadron, RAAF; an Australian
soldier of the 3rd Battalion, 3 RAR, 1950; and RAN midshipmen Ian
Hall and Ralph Clarke in 1952. The obverse of the Medallion features
the official 'Australians at War' emblem, reproduced with the
permission of the Commonwealth Department of Veterans' Affairs.
This is a truly astounding collection of coins that comes to you housed in a
green leather look display case, with accompanying Certificate of
Authenticity. A limited mintage was set on this collection of coins,
with only 1000 sets to be issued. A marvel to look at, this set will make
an excellent contribution to any collection.
