AUSTRALIAN FLORIN COIN SET OF 4

This is a beautifully presented collection of pre decimal coins that were
released during 1927 - 1963. The folder contains four florin coins,
three of which are commemorative issues and the last being a regular
issue florin.
Australia's first commemorative florin marked the opening of the first
Parliament House in Canberra by the Duke of York in May of 1927,
and the coin shows a design of the Parliament House with the
inscription 'Parliament House'. The second florin was brought out to
celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Federation and the coin, symbolic to
the British Parliamentary traditions, shows the crown, sword and mace
and combines them with the Stars of the Southern Cross constellation,
which is a major element of the Australian flag. Thirdly is the 1954
royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, the first time a ruling monarch had
ever visited Australia. The coin has a strange design of a lion and a
kangaroo shown as national symbols standing side by side. Lastly is the
regular issue florin. These coins were struck every year from 1953,
the coronation year for Queen Elizabeth II, up to 1963 (except 1955)
and featured the Commonwealth coat-of-arms that was approved in
1912. This is an excellent way to get a slice of history and a great set of
pre decimal coins to add to your collection.
