GIGANOTOSAURUS - BRONZE DINOSAUR COIN
Issued under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, this bronze coin
depicts a Giganotosaurus, based on an original illustration by T.
Michael Keesey, and includes the Latin inscription for Giganotosaurus
on the reverse.
The fearsome Giganotosaurus, or 'giant southern reptile', grew to about 12 -
14 metres in length and weighed in excess of seven tones - slightly
larger than Tyrannosaurus, but more primitive and occurring 30
million years earlier. Its fossilized remains have been found in Patagonia,
Argentina, in an area noted for a number of giant herbivorous
dinosaurs on which it probably preyed.
The obverse design features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II, the 2002-year date and the monetary
denomination. Minted and inspected by The Perth Mint, this coin was struck
in bronze and comes to you complete in a slipcase. The perfect gift for the dinosaur fan
and an excellent addition to your collection.
